If You Knew

If you could hear me
If you knew the soul
That shrieks
That hides
Behind barbed bushes of fire

The hands that rest
Obediently
Upon your brow
That wish
To brush skin
On skin
With the pieces of you
That you fail to conceal

That you shadow
With roses
And sparkles
And apologies

But when the sun shines
It reveals us both
The ugly
The ragged
The invisible
